Derelict

Toruń is an incredibly beautiful town, but like anywhere it does have its eyesores. Just outside the old town walls lies an area called Bydgoska, a very old district with equally old and run-down buildings. Some of the buildings have been boarded up and are now derelict. Not recommended to walk around here alone late at night.

Szeroka Reflection

A shiny advertising billboard provides an interesting reflection in Ul. Szeroka (Toruń's main high street).

Room with a View

This close-up of the city walls of Toruń reveals an apartment with possibly the best balcony in town...overlooking the River Vistula. Would love to sit out there sipping a cup of tea and reading the morning paper.

Inside Dwór Artusa

This is the incredible atrium inside Dwór Artusa. It houses a small cafe and is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Toruń Tenements

Tenement buildings in Toruń. Love the contrast of the colours against the pale blue sky.

Empik Towers

This impressive building looks as if it could be a palace...it's just a newsagent/language school called Empik!!!

Gateway to Toruń

This statue stands high on the top of the gateway leading into the west side of the old market square. What I love about Toruń is that you should always look up...as there are loads of quirky statues and architectural features.

The Leaning Tower of Toruń

This is one of Toruń's most famous buildings...the leaning tower! It was originally part of the city defences but gradually started to lean. There is a quiet pub inside where you really can feel like you're drunk even if you're not (the walls are all at one angle).

Through the Wall

Looking through an opening in the Old City Walls towards the Market Square. Behind me is the Vistula and to the left the leaning tower (both out of picture)

Granary Restored!

There has been a lot of renovation recently in Toruń...and now many old buildings are gleaming once again. This beautifully restored 'Spichlerz' granary building is situated on the corner of Piekary and Ul. Rabiańska. It takes a pride of place alongside the old city walls opposite the River Vistula.

Warm Glow and Blue Sky

This was taken in the New Market Square about an hour ago. Love how the newly renovated building on the left is glowing with the setting sun. Great contrast against the crisp blue sky.

The Old Faces

This old building situated on the tram #2 route may be old and run-down but it sure does have heaps of character - thanks to the many random faces and figures that can be found on it facade.

Cream & Blue

Yesterday, the sky was a rich blue which was the perfect contrast to this yellow building. We always keep on saying it...but here in Toruń you must always look up. When you do...the result it well worth it!

Guess the building...

Can you guess what function this ornately decorated building has. Bet you'll never guess! Clue is most of you have probably used this building at least once in your time here in Toruń. What is it? Send us your answers ASAP!

Theme Day: Fences

It's the first of the month...so a new theme day photo. This month CityDailyPhoto has chosen the theme of fences...which is not such an easy topic to capture here in Poland. After all fences are hard to come by...all the fields and forests are open and hedges (a la the UK) cease to exist.

So we have to resort to the past to find some good rustic fences. These two photos were taken in Toruń's ethnographical museum which is a small village of old, original Polish buildings...right in the heart of Toruń. Well worth a visit!

A Face Above

I know I keep saying it...but you really do need to keep looking up here in Toruń. Here is another quirky feature that you would miss if you kept looking just straight ahead. This face adorns a building in Szeroka.

A Plane Sky!

This plane is cruising high in a westwardly direction over Toruń's old town.
