Szeroka Reflection

A shiny advertising billboard provides an interesting reflection in Ul. Szeroka (Toruń's main high street).

Creative Reuse

You might want to bookmark this just for the color palette. If it doesn't work for you as a building, perhaps you'd like it in a purse. Or as food.

I like it as a building. If you want to have a look, it's at the corner of Valley Street and DeLacey Avenue, a block or two south of Old Town Pasadena.

I love this kind of architecture. The shape of that facade says "old west frontier" to me. Except the old west is wearing a new outfit, and I just adore that handbag.

Outdoor Venue, 2012

Bank of America Pavilion is one of Boston's favorite summertime theater venues, seating 5,000 people and located along Boston's waterfront.   I will be one of the proud parents attending my son's graduation ceremony here today and the weather forecast looks delightful for the event.

The whole waterfront area in South Boston is undergoing transformation with development of a convention center, trade center, hotels, restaurants, bars, museums, piers, condos, walkways and more.  You wouldn't know we were in a recession by seeing all the commerce in the area.

Out With The Bad . . .

Happy Monochrome Monday!  On the highway heading north towards downtown Boston is this very industrial looking building.  It is actually the ventilation system controlling the air quality for 3.6 miles of tunnels in Boston.

"Upon This Rock..."

Built in 1844, from great blocks of Quincy granite, is the former Church of Saints Peter & Paul in South Boston. Gridley J.F. Bryant, son of the famed railroad pioneer, was the architect on this Gothic revival church. This was the first Roman Catholic Church in South Boston; it was closed in 1995, and turned into condos.

I treated this image of a State Street Office building in North Quincy, to some post processing to add some visual interest.

Balcony

This balcony would make a great place to sit and relax in the warm summer months. Just a shame that it's so darn cold here at the moment (minus 20C!).

Demolition Phase

This is what's left of St. Ann's Parish Center. I had many good times here swimming, bowling and watching my sons go through the cub scout ranks in Pack 21.

Land is being cleared to make way for the new Central Middle School.

Twins

These 1971 Brutalist-style Harbor Towers offer Boston residents a phenomenal view of the harborfront and skyline as well views of neighboring coastal areas like Quincy.

Now You See It . . .

Soon you won't see St. Ann's School which closed after more than 50 years of operation to make way for a new public middle school.

Rebuilding

One World Trade Center will stand tall at 1776 feet when completed in about a year, My thoughts on this anniversary are with all the people directly affected by this senseless tragedy.

Spring Welcome

There's no place like home, especially in springtime. The Granite Trust Building never looked better to me.

"Dorothy Q"

Architects Graves & Epps designed this apartment house on Butler Road, adjacent to the Dorothy Quincy Homestead. This 34-unit apartment building was built in 1929, for $150,000. Quincy has numerous fine, traditionally designed, residentially scaled apartment buildings and the "Dorothy Q" is one of them. You are viewing the east side of the building.

The Last One Standing

Toruń is full of old buildings. Many have been renovated and restored, others like this one are in need of some major TLC. Although old and dilapitated, this building is still strangely beautiful. I particularly love the circular plaque by the lamp. It speaks a thousand words. Who is the bearded figure? Was he a King of Poland perhaps? Why is he on this particular building? In the 2nd picture, you can also easily make out where 3 other similar plaques once stood. History on your doorstep!

Office Park North

The State Street Office complex is seen across the Neponset River in North Quincy. It was built in the 1970s and provides 356,000 sq ft of office space. State Street sold off a few of the buildings last year but still maintains a presence there.
