Pink Glow

The Blizzard of 2013 left a beautiful pink glow in its wake.  Happy Skywatch Friday!

Global Colding

The guy on the radio said we might have frost on our windshields tomorrow morning. 32 degrees is our predicted overnight low. That's considered freezing on the Fahrenheit scale.

For yesterday's dog walk, John wore a woolen scarf around his neck. He also wore shorts, but still, something's not right.

These old houses--okay, this old house--is porous. I've never been crazy about dusting (warn me if you're coming over) but the cool breeze floating in around the window frames is even more disconcerting than the particles it brings with it.

Our heater works, so we'll have ourselves some winter and I'll cozy up indoors at the window. The skies are inordinately clear. The mountains rise, sharply, to meet the blue. The clouds are so towering as to inspire religion.

But doesn't it seem unusually cold for Pasadena?

Layers

The sun is lighting up the Boston skyline beyond the tower in Squantum.  I like the layering and subtle coloring of clouds in this image.  Happy Skywatch Friday!

Election Day, 2012

I hope that every registered voter is able to travel to their polling place today. I have some trivia to share for this occasion: Did you know that Lydia Taft became the first legal woman voter in colonial America in 1756? This occurred under British rule in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This was in a New England town meeting and she voted on at least three occasions in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. ("Travel Tuesday" will be back next week.)

Quincy's ballot today is a made up of 2 large cards;  you use a pen and fill in a small oval to mark your choice.  The ballot is written in two languages to assist Quincy's large Asian population.

What is the ballot like in your city or town?

Let's hope we don't go through a "punch card" fiasco anywhere in this election like we did a few years back.

Return To Blue Sky

Black's Creek estuary had a higher than normal tide yesterday and provided some nice reflections amongst the drifting wood.  Happy Skywatch Friday!

Stripers

These boats were captured while drying in the sun on the banks of Blacks Creek.  I like the colorful red stripes of the Recreation Department boats.  They are being readied for storage - a definite sign that summer is winding down.

Island View

Staghorn sumac fills the foreground of this view of Peddocks Island from Nut Island in Houghs Neck.   Nut Island is a 5-acre former island in Boston Harbor that was joined by landfill to Quincy's Houghs Neck peninsula in the 1940s for use as a sewage treatment facility.

Flood Tide

Happy Skywatch Friday!  Stormy skies prevailed for most of the week.  The storm surge and astronomical high tides turned this Squantum marsh into a bay area.  Along the horizon you can see Marina Bay and Boston's Prudential and Hancock towers.

The A380 and its crimson vapour trail!

This was the view over the Polish countryside - taken just a few minutes ago. The sun setting against a blue sky and a lone Lufthansa A380 jet cruises high above on its way to China.

Drawing a Blank

Sometimes the day is long. You come home, sit down at the computer to create your little ditty and discover you've spent what meager brain pennies you had. There's nothing left to create with.

I spent my sense in Sherman Oaks yesterday, which is appropriate because that's where, two years ago, I took this photo. I knew it would come in handy sooner or later. (That's called saving for a rainy day.)
