Spirits

Some more snow is forecast for this weekend.  Keep your spirits up & enjoy!  Can anyone identify the location of this sign?

Tandem

A snowplow and sander were the only vehicles on Newport Avenue near the closed Wollaston train station this past weekend.

Looking To Make a Move?

I wonder how many calls Uncle Sam Rounseville will get today???

We got lucky at my house - only lost power for 24 hours and internet, phone & cable for about 36 hours; some of our neighbors in Quincy are still without power.  We're still shoveling . . .

To Swim Or Not To Swim...

The creek may look inviting to my pooch, but I think even she has sense enough not to take a dip in the chilly salt water.

Winterscape

It doesn't take much snow and cold to change the look of the landscape.

I continue to have internet problems . . . I keep telling my provider that it is at the pole.  Be back soon as I can.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland

This family is enjoying a walk near Pageant Field after our first dusting of snow.  Happy Monochrome Monday!

The Sky

This reminds me of an oil painting. A cold winter's sky captured during sunset. Beautiful!

The Frozen Vistula

With temperatures reaching as low as minus 18 in the past few weeks...it's not surprising that the River Vistula is frozen! The third image shows a small pool in the middle of the River which the local birds have turned into a bath!

Keeping Warm

Warming up at a Toruń bus stop!

Our thermometer only a few minutes ago!

With temperatures currently as low as minus 18C, one is certainly feeling the cold here in Poland. To help combat the cold, Toruń (and am sure other Polish cities) have resorted back to a technique from the communist past. At various bus stops around Toruń there are literally fires burning to help warm up those waiting for a bus. A great idea...though can't see it catching on in the UK. Not very health & safety!

The Standing Job

With temperatures as low as minus 15 today and expected to plummet to even minus 30 next week...I do feel sorry for these guys who paid very little to stand for hours in one spot holding an advert pointing to a local restaurant.

GUEST'S GALLERY: The Snowballed Wall

Winter brings snow; snow brings snowballs!! Here is a really artistic shot taken in the Old Town of Toruń by our guest photographer Pete Tunnicliffe.

Snowballs can be fun, but they can also be really annoying. Two nights ago, as I was travelling by bus from Toruń to one of the neighbouring villages...a group of young Polish yobs suddenly threw snowballs at the side of the bus. A bit of harmless fun perhaps? Not when one of them had a rock inside which shattered the side mirror! The driver suddenly made an emergency stop and was physically pissed off! Needless to say the yobs ran away like a bunch of cowards! Probably afraid the driver will tell their mummies!! After all...everyone knows everyone in a Polish village!!! ;-)

GUEST'S GALLERY: The Snowy Bench

Wouldn't want to sit on that bench!! Snow has settled and after 2 days...it's still here! Be careful though as many of the roads and pavements are very slippery!

More Snow!

OK...at last we can say Toruń is in the depths of winter. It's currently minus 2 and there is a crisp blanket of snow covering everything. With temperatures expected to drop further...expect the snow to stay a little longer.
