This little white house with the big red chimney was built in 1940, and is located on Grandview Avenue.  This photo was taken as the recent blizzard was winding down.

I'm sure the hedges bordering this 1890 house at 414 Highland Avenue, will be buried in snow before too long! If this was my house, I would hang-out in that "Florida Room" watching the swirling, twirling snow sculpt some beautiful creations outdoors. 

Tree Hugger

This damaged copper beech tree on Wollaston Hill was turned into wood chips this week.  It seems that it was a victim of one of the numerous gas leaks in the area.  Tree specialists tried to save it but it was not to be.  John Quincy Adams, known as the "tree-planting Mr. Adams," planted numerous copper beech trees around the city ... perhaps this was one of them?

This 1925 house is located at 97 Summit Ave.  the residents of this hilltop home have a spectacular view of Boston and the coastline from the backside.

Today's 1925 two-family is located on South Central Street in the Wollaston Hill area.  This house's new exterior is bathed in some great light.  Notice the Quincy Granite block foundation.

To my delight, this Queen Anne Style residence at 20 Lincoln Ave. has recently been unshrouded. With the elimination of mature plantings in the front, we can appreciate the magnificent wrap-around porch and early picture windows with the stained glass transoms . The owner has been meticulously restoring the front of this 1850 house for at least a decade.  Hopefully new owners with deep pockets will continue the restoration work on this fine residence.  (It's for sale!)

This is the "before" picture of last week's 1883 Victorian on Winthrop Avenue.

I captured this photo yesterday.  Isn't the transformation amazing without the porch and shutters?  The new paint colors really bring out the gorgeous details of this old house.

This 1883 Victorian, located at 136 Winthrop Ave., is in the midst of a major facelift and energy savings upgrade.  Come back next week to see the before and after . . . quite a transformation.

Bound By The Line

I spotted this property line marker also called a "bound" between two houses on Summit Ave.

This house located at 103 Summit Avenue is one of Quincy's post-war houses built in 1949. Many of the houses on Summit Ave. are situated with fantastic views of Boston.

This Colonial Revival house looks meticulously maintained with its stucco facade and timbering details under the roof peak. It was built in 1925 and is located at 80 Summit Avenue on Forbes Hill. Many houses in this neighborhood were built after WWi in the 1920s. I'll share more of them in weeks to come.

This 1881 house on Park Ave. is getting a new coat of paint which reveals some wonderful architectural details.

This 1880s Queen Anne style house at 400 Highland Avenue, was recently updated. Some of the architectural details and most of the tree cover were lost in the makeover. The passive solar must be great during the winter months.

This 1900 house at 83 Lincoln Ave. has received lots of TLC over the last few years. I like its Gambrel roof line. I got an unobstructed picture of it a few weeks back before the foliage popped.

The stained shingles on this 1905 house on South Central Avenue really catch your eye with the snowy surround. I took this picture a few weeks ago when the lighting conditions were ideal. The snow is gone but not forgotten.

I have enjoyed walking by this handsome 1920 house at 107 Winthrop Avenue. The fabulous wrap around porch caught my eye first. The new paint color really shows off the character and details of this great old house. I would have guessed this house to be older than 1920, but that is what the records say.

This 1878 house has received lots of refurbishing over the last couple years. Most recently it has received a new coat of paint to really show off its beautiful details. Wearing a wee bit of green for St. Paddy's Day I might add.
