A snowplow and sander were the only vehicles on Newport Avenue near the closed Wollaston train station this past weekend.

This tidy house at 129 Norfolk Street is recorded as being built in 1910.  It definitely has that 1920s bungalow look to it.

The residents of this 1900 house located at 183 Highland Avenue have put their porch to great use.  That hammock beckons.  The Quincy granite foundation shows beautifully.

Today's "old house" was built in 1900 and is locate on Phillips Street in the Wollaston section of Quincy.   The window bays on the front and side add lots of light and interest to this home.  (It would be much better for photos if the utility lines were run underground.)

This 1926, brick classic on Wollaston Avenue has a stately beauty. I marvel at the craftsmanship and labor that went into the homes built in the 1920s.

Number 139-141 Clay Street is one of three similarly designed double residences in a row on Clay Street. This house is one of the early double residences built in the 1860s in a traditional style, with steep Gothic Revival gables dominating the facade. A simple hip roof balustraded porch, supported by square posts, unites the two entrances. The house is set on a typical Quincy granite foundation and the red color brings out the wonderful architectural details.

This 1890 colonial at 71 Beach Street has some interesting angles and details. The owners chose paint colors which show off the turn of the century details.

Public Forum

Neighbors and abutters of Wollaston Center came out in droves last week for a public informational meeting about proposed zoning changes for future development in the area. It's great to see so many people care about what happens to their community and taking part in a process to improve it.

It was the screened porch that first caught my eye on this 1935, gambrel roofed house at 155 Sherman Street in the Wollaston section of Quincy. The columns and porch give this house some charm. I bet there are some nice details inside as well, like hardwood floors, glass door knobs, brass hardware, and maybe French doors.
