Just south of Toruń!

TORUŃ DAILY PHOTO is back! Apologies for the delay but have been away working in the UK for the past couple of months. As you can see I am now back in Poland...and my jet flew just south of Toruń on its way to Warsaw airport. There is an airport in Bydgoszcz but only served by Ryanair.

Upon arrival at Warsaw Okęcie airport I tried the new train service that connects the airport with Warsaw Centralna station. Excellent! Gone are the days where you'll be stuck in heavy traffic jams.

The A380 and its crimson vapour trail!

This was the view over the Polish countryside - taken just a few minutes ago. The sun setting against a blue sky and a lone Lufthansa A380 jet cruises high above on its way to China.

The World's Largest Plane over Poland

Against a bright blue backdrop, an Emirates A380 (the world's largest plane) jets past over Toruń...on its way to Dubai. Would love to have a flight on this!

A Complete Contrast

Yesterday...
...and today!
It's amazing what difference 24hrs makes! The first picture taken was yesterday morning as an Emirates A330 plane jets past over Poland against a rich blue sky. This morning we have woken up to thick fog and sombre grey clouds. Thats life I guess!

A Plane Sky!

This plane is cruising high in a westwardly direction over Toruń's old town.

Return to Poland

The plane mainly full of Poles heading back home.
Didn't realise that kid on the right was spying on me until later!! :-)

My plane back to Poland -complete with special Polish Tourism logo. Not sure why they had to check the left engine immediately after landing though!!

Flew back to Poland last week on board LOT Polish Airlines. Nice new Embraer jet but a very costly trip as was forced to buy a last minute ticket as my original booking had been cancelled - long story!.

On the plus side TORUŃ DAILY PHOTO is now back and will continue to put up some new photos and posts all about our favourite Polish city!

Low-flying Russians!

Was out exploring the Barbarka forest last weekend...when all of the sudden this low-flying Russian-built Antonov An-2 plane flew overhead...it was so low that it felt like it was going to scrape the trees (though am sure the pilot still had a perfectly safe altitude). Guess the plane was heading towards Toruń's airfield.

Flying High!

Photographs courtesy of Ola Muszytowska

Flying high above Toruń's old walled city. These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago by one of my students Ola Muszytowska. She was lucky enough to be taken up in a plane...and even luckier as it was during the volcanic ash chaos. Though of course as it was a light plane and flying much lower, everything was okay!

Clear Blue Skies...and Not a 747 in Sight!!

Poland lies bang on the long-haul international flight path and the skies are usually criss-crossed with white vapour trails. Not for the past few days that is. The skies were erriely quiet as volcanic ash from Iceland continues to wreak havoc to air travel around the world.

Sun & Sky

I was quickly called to the window by my ever-thoughtful wife to take this picture of the dramatic lighting on the tree and the dark grey ash-filled clouds that are currently hanging over Europe.

The volcanic ash from the Icelandic eruption has been causing immense travel chaos around the world...with a knock-on domino effect. My mother was due to fly tomorrow but her airline has cancelled ALL flights till Monday. So she's taking the bus instead!! Longer...but far more scenic!!

A Flying Contrast

Toruń is situated bang on the international flight path for many long-haul flights heading from Asia and vice-versa. This jet is one such airliner heading towards a European-bound destination. Particularly love the sharp white contrasts of the vapour trails against the blue sky. The cream building on the left is actually the bell tower of Toruń's university church

Old and New

A view of a building construction site within the Old Town of Toruń. The site is actually converting an old granary into a massive new hotel. The building process has been going on ever since I've known Toruń (4 years now!) and will no doubt last a little longer. The picture was taken near the River Vistula and is looking towards the outer rim of the Old Town. You can make out the famous leaning tower of Toruń as well as other notable buildings. It's also interesting to see another form of modern technology: two long-haul jets playing catch-up high over the city!!
