A Face Above

I know I keep saying it...but you really do need to keep looking up here in Toruń. Here is another quirky feature that you would miss if you kept looking just straight ahead. This face adorns a building in Szeroka.

Street Dancin'!

The weather is currently scorching here in Toruń and these streetwise lads were out in force today to keep the townsfolk entertained. Breakdancing, acrobats and loads of twists and turns. They certainly knew how to keep us amused!

In Poland street performers, leaflet canvassing, etc don't need a licence from the local council. So you can literally just turn up on the street and try to entertain the crowds!

High Above

One thing you notice about Toruń is the large amount of statues dotted around the city. Some of them are hidden and you may need to look up to see them. This one can be found high above atop an old building on Ul. Szeroka (the main street of Toruń). It's very graceful and classical but does need a bit of a clean-up (thanks to all those pesky pigeons!!).

Investment!

Obviously, Toruń city council is very proud of all it's investment over the past few years...as there is currently a photographic exhibition in Ul.Szeroka documenting all new investments and buildings. But the big question is...when will the new Vistula road bridge be built?

The Rude Film Crew!

The well-known Polish TV series "Na dobre i na złe" ("For Better or For Worse") is currently shooting today here in Toruń. So like most people I popped on down to have a quick-look. There was quite a lot happening as the cameras began to roll and film two characters walking down Ul. Szeroka. Suddenly, this rude film crew member targeted me and told me to stop taking photos (despite the fact that there were many others taking photos). Luckily, things changed when I started to talk to him in English. There were some official press photographers there...and they backed me up...by telling the guy that I was with the BBC!! So the guy calmed down and walked off. Ha ha...gullible, or what?! Still, I suppose TORUŃ DAILY PHOTO does promote Toruń internationally more than some of the actual accredited press !

In the last picture you can just make out the actors Maria Gładkowska and Bartosz Opania standing in the distance awaiting their cue.

The Contrasting Sky

Yesterday, we had 'The Stunning Sky' and now we have something a little more contrasting...but equally stunning. The blue sky seems to be getting swamped from all sides by the menacing dark clouds...which in turn are contrasted nicely by the bright lights of Toruń's Szeroka street.

The Apteka Atlas!

Looming high above the main thoroughfare that is Ul.Szeroka is Toruń's very own Atlas. But wait...that is not a globe that he is carrying...but a ball that simply says 'APTEKA'. 'Apteka' is Polish for 'pharmacy'. And yes you've guessed it there is a pharmacy in that building under him. A real original and classical form of advertising. We like it!
