What a difference a day makes

Sunday afternoon looking across Hyde Civic Square with not a flake of snow or sliver of ice to be seen.

How different it looked on Saturday morning.

Look closely and you'll find several touches of blue for Blue Monday.

Skywatch Friday: Hyde Town Hall from Hyde Central Station

To the left of the Town Hall are the high rise flats, John Grundy House and Chartist House. A large leylandii tree on Cross Street seems to dwarf the larger buildings.

See the tree from the opposite direction on Hyde DP Xtra.

Ruby Tuesday: New bollards

I recently showed you a clear view of Corporation Street and noted that new retractable bollards had been erected since.

Several things have gone in the revamp of Hyde Market but the red telephone kiosks have remained.

Across the road a red car is passing the red-brick Town Hall.

See the scene from the opposite direction on Hyde DP Xtra.

Skywatch Friday: A clear view of Corporation Street

I took this a few weeks ago following the end of the refurbishment work on Hyde Market.

There is a clear view from the market ground across the road and down Corporation Street.

See how it looked in January 2010 under a blanket of snow; in August 2009 with the sun shining, and in 2002 before and after the erection of the Crown Pole which was removed in January 2012 at the start of the renewal work.

Since I took this photograph a row of retractable metal bollards have been placed across the entrance so the view is already not as clear as seen here.

For Skywatch Friday.

Weekend Reflections: The Town Hall on the Civic Square

On a day when the rain came down in lumps I captured this reflection of the Town Hall in the flags of the new Civic Square from behind the stalls by the Mall.

A smaller but wider/taller version of this, showing the Town Hall itself, can be seen on Geograph

A view of the market stalls from the opposite direction can be seen on Hyde DP Xtra.

Blue Monday: Take a Fresh Look

A fresh looking Hyde Market, with the Town Hall in the background, on a sunny day following the recent £1.2 million refurbishment.

There are many moaning-ownies decrying the changes but at least Hyde still has a market unlike neighboroughing Denton so long may it flourish.

I just hope they are going to re-paint the stall roofs in the bright colours they used to sport.

See how it looked under construction in July

October Theme: Silhouette

The October 1st theme at City Daily Photo Blogs is Silhouette.

So what silhouetted Hyde icon should I show you?

The top of the Town Hall tower and its distinctive chimneys.

No contest.

The Angel of Toruń

The symbol of Toruń is an angel. Here she is high above the entrance to the town hall.

The Grand Pianist

What I absolutely love about Toruń...is that there is always something happening in town. Last night this pianist was out in force with a grand piano serenading onlookers...all under the watchful eye of Copernicus and the Town Hall.

Town Hall and Flowers

Toruń comes alive in the summer with an array of dazzling colours. I know summer is pretty much near an end now...but Toruń is still very much alive. This photo taken in the morning shows the town hall tower. Lamps are currently decorated around town with hanging flower baskets.

Skyview Friday: Pigeon over the Town Hall

I took a photo of the market last week and it wasn't till I downloaded it that I noticed the pigeon flying over the Town Hall.

It is carrying something in its beak but I can't decide what. As I was using my phone-camera this is the best close-up I can get.

The uncropped original can be viewed on Hyde DP Xtra.

Fences around the market

The renewal work on Hyde Market continues apace.

The half of the market ground that has been paved is fenced off but roofs have now been added to the new stalls.

There is a closer look at the new stalls on Hyde DP Xtra.

Weekend in Black & White: New Market Stalls

As work progesses on the renovation of Hyde Market the bases and framework for new stalls on the Northern half of the market have gone up.

One of the cement mixers on the right seems to dominate the Town Hall on the left but this treatment serves to highlight the outlines of the work.

You can view the original photograph on Geograph.

The View from Hyde Central Station

Looking over the town from Hyde Central station. On the left is the Town Hall. On the right is St George's Church at the top of Great Norbury Street. The dominant building with the white roof is the Asda supermarket.

Mellow Yellow Monday: Last Tuesday

This week's contribution to Mellow Yellow Monday is a photograph taken last Tuesday morning showing the ongoing renovation work on Hyde Market.

Compare with how it looked a month ago. Now there is even tarmac over some of the double-yellow lines.

The signpost on the left is the one seen in my post of 19th April.

Town Hall: An Interesting Perspective

This is an interesting view of Toruń's landmark Town Hall. It was taken on the steps of Dwór Artusa.

Skywatch Friday: Looking past the Crown Pole

A view from the South end of Hyde Market looking down Corporation Street.

Immediately on the left is the Midland Bank. Across Market Street on the corner of Corporation Street is the Royal Bank of Scotland. Further down Corporation Street on the opposite side of the road can be glimpsed the domes of the Jamia Mosque. Nearer is the Town Hall from which a flag is flying.

In the foreground on the left is a board showing details of the plans to revamp the Market ground. Behind it lies the Crown Pole erected in 2002 to commemorate the Queen's golden jubilee. The pole is to be re-sited but the plans do not say where. The telephone box is to be retained.

More about the revamp on Hyde DP Xtra.
