Dancing to the carol singers

In front of the carol singers in my post from yesterday were a couple of red-dressed folk singing heartily and even doing a little dance. I believe they were actually promoting the local food banks.

Round the other side the Rotary Club of Hyde had parked Santa's sleigh - see Hyde DP Xtra.

Carol singers in the Civic Square

Carol singing in the Civic Square on Saturday was being led by Tom on accordion and Jim on guitar.

It was wet to start with but brightened up later.

Santa in his red suit was around. I showed you his reindeer in the Mall yesterday.

I'll show you his sleigh tomorrow.

The Mossley band were also in the square and I'll show you them on Saturday.

With the bits of blue in this photograph I'd like to wish a Merry Christmas to all the bloggers who contribute to Blue Monday.

Meanwhile please remember to vote for your favourites at Best of Hyde 2012.

Official opening of Hyde Civic Square

The official opening of Hyde Civic Square following a £1.2 million revamp of Hyde Market took place on Saturday.

These girls (there were actually five of them) from the Tameside Centre for Performing Arts were doing the "Time Warp" song as part of the entertainment provided.

For another five photographs and more information on the event please visit Hyde DP Xtra.

The Grand Pianist

What I absolutely love about Toruń...is that there is always something happening in town. Last night this pianist was out in force with a grand piano serenading onlookers...all under the watchful eye of Copernicus and the Town Hall.

The Bandstand in Hyde Park

This is the Bandstand in Hyde Park.

That is Hyde Park in Hyde, not in London, New York, Chicago, Boston, Sydney, Leeds, Tampa, Cincinatti, Sheffield, Los Angeles, Boise, Kansas City, Memphis, Austin, Perth, Adelaide nor anywhere else but Hyde.

Today's post is a contribution to The Weekend in Black and White.

Weekend Reflections: Sally Army Buskers

Many Saturdays you will find two members of the Salvation Army playing outside in the Market Place. The market stalls are reflected in the shop front behind them.

See how they looked in November 2006.

ABC Wednesday: W is for Waiting

The folk here were waiting for the Christmas lights to be turned on back in November.

They were switched on by pantomime dame Bev Moss after the crowd had been entertained by Mossley Band and other performers.

Another photograph from that evening is on Hyde DP Xtra.

I'll show you the lights on the Town Hall tomorrow.

Weekend Reflections in a Tuba

It was the Gee Cross Well Dressing last Sunday.

At the start of the procession it was raining heavily so everyone was huddled under their umbrellas.

As in previous years the Adamson Band led the procession around the Gee Cross Wells.

Despite the rain the horn of the tuba reflected a unique view.

You can see the whole of the instrument on Hyde DP Xtra and more of the band on Geograph.

I'll show you some of the wells next week.

Information about the history and format of the Gee Cross Well Dressing can be found on Gee Cross Well Dressing 2006.

More reflections can be found at Weekend Reflections.

ABC Wednesday: Z is for Zumba

I'd never heard of Zumba until I saw this banner on the side of the Town Hall.

"Get Bikini Fit for Summer" it says which suggested it was something to do with aerobics. Since then I've discovered that it is a combination of dancing and excercise - very energetic and exhausting according to people who've told me they've tried it.

I keep hearing about everywhere now so it must be the latest craZe.
