Polish weddings are a great occasion and are far better than the average British wedding. They are steeped in tradition with the groom carrying the bride into the wedding reception, the happy couple throwing their glasses over their shoulders and then loads of wedding games at midnight. This is all washed down with copius amounts of vodka followed by a lot of dancing. The party usually goes on until 6am and then it's followed by yet another party the following day!! 
Funny how most Polish shops are written in Polish...except when it comes to sex shops!

Well in just a few hours time, Kate Middleton will be walking down the aisle to her beloved Prince. One thing is for sure...she won't be wearing this monstrosity! Spotted in a local Toruń bridal wear shop window. Hideous indeed!
Santa Claus welcomes shoppers to this Polo Market. Polish Christmases are still very traditional but they are becoming more and more commercial each and every year.
This is the dazzling St Johns' Cathedral looming high above. This shot was taken exactly opposite from yesterday's antique shop posting...and reveals exactly what was reflected in the shop window!

As well as being the birthplace of Copernicus, Toruń is famous for its delicious perniki (gingerbread). Tourists flock to the city to sample the fine moorish taste and there is even a gingerbread museum, where you can make your own tasty souvenir. Delicious indeed...but the receipe is top secret...so it would be impossible to recreate it again at home. The most famous gingerbread company is Kopernik (named appropriately after Copernicus). Their large factory lies to the east of the city. However, it is very difficult to get inside and tours are out of the question! Shame, really as a Cadbury World style attraction would certainly go down well here.
This is one of the few Zabka shops that we have in Torun. The shops stock groceries, drinks, snack food, newspapers and magazines and are open from 6am to 11pm. I had a strange experience a few months ago in this very Zabka store. Went to get a bar of chocolate and queued up at the counter to pay. The young (and rather dim) cashier scanned by chocolate in...but then refused to take my money as the chocolate didnt come up on her screen and she didnt know how much it was (she couldnt even bother to check!). So I had to forgoe my favourite chocolate all because the incompentent staff forgot to add the price to the till!
This is the scene on Ul. Szeroka...the main street of Torun. This has changed a lot in the last 15-20 years with more western shop names such as Reserved, New Yorker and of course McDonalds (which is unfortuantely everywhere!).
This was the active scene a few days ago at a local hairdressers here in Torun. Unlike the UK, you don't really need to make an appointment and can just turn up off the street. The barber is very thorough and detailed...and an average sitting can take 30-40 mins (even with short hair!). I always have a haircut here before I travel abroad, because at 12 zloty (£2) its so much more cheaper than the UK!
There is something quite charming about this decoration above a local shop. It is just an ordinary bike shop yet the entrance is very grand. Toruń has a fascination with angels. There was even a festival last year celebrating them. Polish people often give decorated angels as gifts and there are other paintings scattered around the city depicting angles. Hey...there is even a pub called "Pod Aniołem"...or "Under the Angel"!!!!
