Charity Time

Balloons over Toruń's Town Hall
Red balloons galore!
The Empire visits Toruń - may the force be with you!

It's that time of the year again...today is the huge annual charity event "Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy". All across Poland there will be special events to raise money to help sick children. Basically, today is the Polish equivalent of the UK's "Children in Need". Tonight it will culminate with firework displays around the country.

These images were all taken in Toruń a couple of hours ago.

All in the Name of Charity!

Yesterday, the whole of Poland united together for the 18th Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomoocy, a huge annual event that helps raise money for sick children. Toruń was one of the host cities meaning that we had live TV coverage beamed from the old market square...and many wild and wonderful events. These ranged from getting as many people to stand in a heart with balloons to some crazy folks who ran around town in nothing more than some swimming costumes. And yep...Toruń is around minus 8 at the moment with loads of snow! All in the name of charity!

A Wintry Broadcast

TORUŃ DAILY PHOTO rarely posts more than one post a day. However, we couldn't resist putting up this picture which was taken this evening. A local TVP Bydgoszcz news correspondent awaits her live link up back to the news studio. She was in Toruń's main market square reporting for a piece about tomorrow's national fundraising event - Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy.
