A different view of Captain Clarke's Bridge

Views of Captain Clarke's bridge over the Peak Forest Canal are usually taken from the South where it's design is more evident, or from the towpath if looking North.

This photograph was taken more than two years ago by Tom Wigley who had crossed over to the other bank in order to photograph a lost memorial to members of the St George's Sunday School Rowing Club who had lost their lives in the Second World War.

Those photographs can be seen on Old Hyde.

Kitty at Hobson Moor Quarry

Photograph © Karl & Ali.

Is it a mural or just graffiti?

Karl & Ali found this at Hobson Moor Quarry, a popular climbing venue on the outskirts of Mottram-in-Longdendale.

For more information and a wider view of the quarry see Hyde DP Xtra.

Croft Millennium Green 2010

Today's photo is by Mavis Nichols. It was taken in July 2010 and shows a game of cricket on the Croft Millennium Green. Since then a Multi-Use Games Area has been constructed on the Green.

In the background is the Theatre Royal. Muriel is secretary of the Theatre Royal Onward Trust dedicated to seeing it eventually reopen.

I am away in St Annes until next Monday. A series of posts have been scheduled over the period but as I expect to be offline they won't be tweeted by me nor posted on Facebook.

ABC Wednesday: H is for Hyde's hidden gems

Photograph © Kirsty Thompson

According to the September issue of the glossy magazine Cheshire Life
Hyde is worth seeking. Hyde is not the flashiest of Cheshire towns but it has charms all its own ... may not regularly top the list of must-see places in Britain, but this industrious town boasts many hidden gems.
Five of my photographs appear in the article written by Elizabeth Short and Kirsty Thompson came and took one of myself at the computer.

To read the whole article you'll have to buy a copy of the magazine which I think you can order online from the Cheshire Life website if your local newsagent doesn't stock it.

Tree Sculpture Under Construction

Today's photograph was taken by Ian of the Lazy Bicycle Blog and shows a tree in Hyde Park. The tree is being transformed into a sculpture.

A wood sculpture of a squirrel was created last year. This one is probably by the same artist. Ian didn't tell me where in the park this is so I'll have to hunt for it next time I venture that way.
