Pre-Season

The Adams Mansion looks beautiful bathed in spring light. The Adams Mansion will reopen for tours on Thursday, April 19th. The grounds are open all year!

Presidential Finial

Happy Skywatch Friday! This finial is bathed in sunshine atop the gate of the Adams Mansion.

Frame Job

National Park Ranger, C. Blood, is helping to winterize the boxwood plants at the Adams National Historic site. A nifty framework is placed over the plant every few feet and boards nailed into the frame. This keeps the heavy snow from damaging this lush garden edging.

The Adams Mansion is closed until spring but the grounds surrounding Peacefield may be enjoyed all winter long.

One Red Leaf

The Adams Mansion is Quincy's most famous house with grounds opened year round. The fence from yesterday's post borders the property on Adams Street.

Flower Power

I like the backdrop for this white dahlia -- it's the Adams Mansion.

Garden Visit

Flowers are still in bloom on the grounds at Peacefield, aka the Adams Mansion. Visitors by the busloads are stopping by to tour the Adams National Historic site. Rangers will be on duty for tours until November 10th.

Winter At Peacefield

This snowy winter, the Adams Mansion definitely lives up to the name John Adams gave it - "Peacefield".

Red and Green

I like the new red sprigs winding their way through the lush greenery atop the fence at the Adams Mansion.

Garden View

The garden is forever changing at the Adams Mansion. I enjoy visiting it often to see what's new.

Back Door View

In this rear view of the Adams Mansion, you can see two gambrel-style roof lines. Those are the additions that Abigail and John Adams had designed and attached to the original "Old House". The oldest section was built in 1731. I like the little shuttered windows in the attic.

Pastoral View

Yes, the Adams farmstead is my favorite bucolic setting in Quincy. This pond was made by the rise in the water table from the unusual heavy rains of March.

Finials and Posts

The Adams historic homes open today for the season. Many tourists and local folks will pass underneath these finials to get a closer look at the summer White House of John and John Quincy Adams at 135 Adams Street.

Springtime at the Mansion

Walking the grounds of the Adams Mansion I realized why this national treasure was referred to as "Peacefield" by the Presidents John and John Quincy Adams. Tours will begin once again on April 19th.

Chair and Shadows

This chair was bathed in sunlight and shadows on the porch of the Adams Mansion recently. It will be stored away for the winter when the mansion closes for the season shortly.

The chair seemed to lend itself to black and white and is my monochrome Monday contribution. See more b&w images here.

The Adams National Historic Park provides some living history from time to time. I always seem to find something photo worthy here. The park is open year round but the tours of the Adams Mansion will stop November 10th.

Presidential Doorway

I was puzzled why the front door to the Adams Mansion seemed extra wide. Then I remembered that Abigail Adams and the ladies that lived in the 1700s h ad some wide skirts that required an appropriate sized entryway. That's just my theory; I haven't researched it yet.

This late summer flower garden is located on the grounds of the Adams National Historic site. The ivy on the Adams Presidential Library is very lush after a season's growth.
