An Olympic School Visit

Some of my wife's school children were very lucky to come face to face with a 2010 British Olympic ice skater. Friend and local Torunian David King kindly agreed to answer some questions prepared by a group of 12 year olds at a local primary school. He also signed autographs for the lucky students.

David King together with his partner Stacey Kemp will be representing Britain at the 2010 Winter Olympics next month in Vancouver. They have been living here in ToruĊ„ for almost 2 years...where they have been training. TORUĊƒ DAILY PHOTO wishes them both the very best of luck!

New Skates

This smart dad brought a chair to Sailors' Home Pond to help his kids put their skates on and to save his back in doing so. Sailors' Pond is in the middle of a residential section in Wollaston called Beechwood Knoll, which is close to Wollaston Beach. The frigid temps must be keeping most skaters indoors today.

Keep Your Eye On The Puck

These boys are enjoying the great outdoors playing some pickup hockey at Sailors' Home Pond.

The city opens the gate to the pond when the ice is safe to skate on. The shovel in the foreground serves as their "Zamboni" to clean the ice.

Learning To Skate

Most of the ponds are frozen over and new skates are being tried out. I have fond memories of skating inside my mom's skates to stay upright. Have you ever ice skated?

Ice Rink Action

A rare shot of me on skates!
My wife Ania enjoying the ice
Relaxing on the ice...it's hard work!

Here are some shots from last night's action on the ice rink. There are two indoor ice rinks here in ToruĊ„. This is the newest one. What, with the winter temperature here in Poland...ice skating is very popular with all ages!
