A Stone's Throw

Every day is a good day to go to Wolly Beach to chuck some stones into the water.

Last Minute Storm Chores

I'm sure the docks have been cleared & secured for today's storm.  I am lucky to be able to wait it out in the comfort of my house.  That is Boston's Hancock Tower in the distance.

Reflecting

Wollaston Beach could be a good place to park yourself for the next heat wave.

Treasure Seeker

Lots of seaweed and debris washed ashore this week at Wollaston Beach, providing fresh fodder for this treasure seeker.

"Accuracy, Economy & Dispatch"

I'm sure the founder and first commodore of Wollaston Yacht Club, Frank Burgess, would be pleased to see the club that he founded get some much needed sprucing up.  Quincy has some first-rate recreational spaces.

"Accuracy, economy and dispatch" were Mr. Burgess's watchwords - perhaps when he owned Boston Gear Works in North Quincy.   He also served the Quincy Y.M.C.A. on the board of directors for many years.

Sky & Beach

The beachcombers had Wolly Beach all to themselves.  The Squantum peninsula is in the background.  Happy Skywatch Friday!  Click here for more beautiful skies from around the world.

Zigzag Tree

I like the way the northeast wind has shaped this tree trunk along Wollaston Beach.

Clearing In Sight

We've had a week of much needed rain and showers.  I do like this view of Boston from the low tide line at Wollaston Beach.

Happy Monochrome Monday!

Historic Knoll

Moswetuset Hummock, the wooded mound in the background, was the seat of the ruling American Indian chief, Chickatawbut, in the 1600s. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts got its name from Moswetuset. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

En Plein Air

Dianne Panarelli Miller, a master painter, is making the most of a recent sunny day. I captured her putting the final brush strokes on her painting of the Wollaston Yacht Club. She took me over to her car and showed me the companion painting of the Squantum Yacht Club. They are going to be hung in one of her two gallery shows this month.

Snack Time

These sanderlings didn't seem to mind the 40 degree water temperature.

After GLow

The storm clouds departed in time for a glowing sunset yesterday along Quincy Shore Drive. A couple of popular Quincy establishments can be seen on the right: the Beachcomber and The Clam Box. The Clam Box's opening is a sure harbinger of spring!
