day 99 - chocolate - the breakfast of champions

Easter Sunday. Most people would say that the best part about Easter is the chocolate.

I would say that it's having Easter Monday off.

That's right. For the first time since high school, I don't have to work tomorrow. I ♥ being a civil servant.

Kraslice (Easter Egg)

I captured this ostrich-sized egg, last year, while enjoying a Czech Easter. This beautifully painted egg was a gift from Croatia to the Czech Republic and was on display at a festival in Prague's Old Town. Enjoy your Easter!

New Color, New Life

Coloring eggs is part of many people's Easter tradition.

Wet Monday!

Today is Wet Monday (Lany Poniedzialek) or "Smigus-Dyngus". Traditionally, men soak women with water...although these days pretty much anyone can get wet. You have to be really careful when walking through town!! Don't get offended if someone does pour water over you. Apparently, it will bring luck for the rest of the year.

Another tradition is to hit women against the ankles with branches. As you can see Poland has its own unique traditions and customs at Easter.

Poland has many rich Easter traditions. From taking an Easter basket to church to hand decorating beautiful eggs to eating Polish Żurek soup to walking around the church 3 times at 6am on Easter Sunday. The list goes on. Wait until what happens tomorrow!! ;-)

New Life

The egg is a symbol of new life. This egg really stands out on the budding branches of this young tree I spotted on Grandview Ave. I like the picture of the flower on the egg . . . a view of new life to come.

This post is also appropriate because today is a "BIRTH" day for me & "not so Clueless IB" . . . happy birthday, Artie!

I almost stepped on this young artist's work on a rain-soaked sidewalk. It's good to watch where you walk.

Easter's On Its Way

Lots of girls and boys will be hoping that the Easter Bunny leaves some confections for them tomorrow. This is one of the diplays at Pure Chocolate which might be Quincy's only chocolatier. I put this on my must visit again list.

Wesołych Swiąt!

Easter Greetings from Toruń Daily Photo! Or Wesołych Swiąt as the Poles say! I have already been up since 5 am in order to go to the local village church for Easter Mass. It is a custom to walk 3 times around the church in a religious procession. This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. Unfortuantely, it is extrememly cold, windy and cloudy today here in Toruń. A far contrast from today's pic! Roll on summer...

Polish Easter basket

Today is Easter Saturday and here in Poland, everyone decorates a special basket of food which will then be taken to the local church to be blessed by the priest. Wesołych Swiąt (Happy Easter) to you all!!!
