This photo was taken by a friend a couple of days ago in town. It shows a few more Juwenalia students in fancy dress. Could you imagine people dressing up like this in the UK...in such a politically correct country?!

The Attack of the Killer Pussy Cats (or Juwenalia)

It's that time of the year again when most of the university students don fancy dress and roam the streets in search of beer money (well asking fellow passers-by for a kind donation!). Some of the costumes this year have been rather imaginative...we've already spotted a mobile phone, 2 guys dressed as a tank and even a guy looking like a carrot!!

The other day, we were waiting at the traffic lights, on our way to Inowrocław, when we were pounced upon by these black cats (well I actually thought they were bunnies at first)...must need my eyes examined!! LOL!!

A Cultural Presentation

Every year, I visit local high schools to give illustrated talks in English. Yesterday, I gave a presentation on the differences between Polish and British culture to about 60 young Poles.

Cultural differences is a great topic to talk about. Poland and the UK are only separated by 900 miles yet there are many subtle differences that divide the 2 nations. British people always queue for things, Polish people simply don't; British people say 'hi' to their friends, Polish guys will always shake hands; Polish people pull their bottom eyelid down when they don't believe you, British people rub their chins...the list is endless and always fascinating!

GETTING THEIR BEER MONEY!!!

It's that time of year again...when the students dress up in crazy costumes and beg for money. Not to raise for charity...but simply to fund their beer drinking lifestyle!! At least they're honest...and many people are quite happy to give them some cash. This year's JUWENALIA is shaping up to be a fun event with many incredible and ingenious costumes (though perhaps too many witches and goblins!!).

English can be Fun!

Learning English is not just about sitting in the classroom and reciting words and doing boring grammar exercises. Far from it! English can be fun, fun, fun...and in my lessons I try to make them as enjoyable as possible. Take last week's upper intermediate class for example. A simple lesson on the lexical set of the body was turned into a fun visual activity by getting the students to draw around one of their class mates and then consequently label the body! Fun for all ages!
