Iron Patriotism

I was all set to post a picture of the John Adams statue today until I stopped by the constuction site of the new Quincy high school wing and saw this iron worker. As he was erecting the steel I-beams, 50 feet off the ground, I saw him stop to unsnag our country's flag from the block and tackle that hoisted the I-beams. I was touched by this show of respect while working and thought here's a man who doesn't take anything for granted. What an unexpected show of patriotism.

Concrete and Metal

This pile of concrete rocks and wire is what remains of Quincy's Center For Technical Education. The pole lights in the background are turned on at night for the public tennis courts located behind the rubble. I think this image really lends itself to a monochrome image. Hi Tech

This is a computer lab in the new Science, Math and Technology wing at Quincy High School. It is located on the top floor in the cylinder shaped area that you can see here.

Congratulations to Quincy's US FIRST Robotics Team HYPER for winning the General Motors Industrial Design Award and being ranked #2 at the end of the regional matches in Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend! This is a particularly sweet accomplishment for the team this year because they were displaced to the basement of a local church to make way for the next phase of school construction.

Opening Day in Wing A

The Science, Math, Technology Center opens to students at Quincy High School today. This is a very exciting accomplishment for our city and puts the new high school building project at 36% completion. We will visit the state of the art interior as soon as I get inside to document it. (I can't wait for the dirty snow to go away.)

School Days

It's "back to school" for students in Quincy today after being on vacation for 10 weeks. Pictured here is construction of the new Quincy High School. The Technical School, partially seen in the background, will be demolished next year as students move into the building you see here. Click here for a view of construction taken last February.

Go to any high school and observe how many students are making calls on their cell phones. It's an amazing number here in Quincy. Click this image and enlarge it to see the students better. I really liked the way the grill work framed them.

This is the first phase of the new Quincy High School complex. There has been lot of progress over the last 5 months . School is in session in the adjoining buildings during construction.
