Many of the schools have been converted into businesses and residences like this one. The school system was decimated and never fully recovered. In the 1990s, the city had to build new schools to ease over-crowding.
This place used to be a quarry, then a"dump". . . no fooling. The old Quarry Street dump was capped off a few years ago and now has 394 units of housing with more planned. Rents start at $1450 for a 1 bedroom and go to $2250 for a 2-bedroom (no utilities) but a fantastic view of Boston and the Atlantic Ocean from some units.
