
This eclectic $13,000 brick residence, located on the Squantum peninsula, was designed by Boston architect James Murraj in 1929 for Owen F. Oakes, a sweater manufacturer. It commands a gorgeous view of Quincy Bay and is built on land that belonged to the family of George F. Burkhardt, a Boston brewer and important Squantum landowner, from 1876 to 1907. By 1911 the property was owned by Lotta M. Crabtree, a renowned actress who accumulated large real estate holdings in Squantum. Crabtree (1847-1924) who reached her height of fame in the 1870's and 1880's, retired from the stage at the age of 45, and died in her own hotel ("The Brewster") in Boston.
