Thursday is "This Old House Day"

This unusual Queen Anne residence at 10 Winthrop Avenue in the Wollaston Hills section was built in 1911 for a Mrs. A. C. Soutter. Boston architect Frederick H. Gowing (in practice 1903-1937) designed the $7700 structure and builders Singer & Stewart were the contractors. I like the curvilinear lines of the house and the conical tower, the rounded corners and what about the very prominent curved wrap-around balustraded porches, not to mention the granite foundation. I've been waiting to catch this multi-family residence dripping in icicles but conditions haven't cooperated. This is one of my favorite old houses in Quincy.
