Polish comedy greats!

These two loveable characters can be found standing outside our local multiplex Cinema City here in Toruń. Who are they?...I hear you ask! Well they are the characters Kargul and Pawlak, two legenday icons that were popular on the Polish silver screen back in the 60's and 70's. Władysław Kargul (Władysław Hańcza, 1905 -1977) and Kazimierz Pawlak (Wacław Kowalski, 1916 - 1990) were the Laurel and Hardy* of Poland and hold a proud place in Polish cinematic history.

The monument was unveiled in 2006 and it captures a scene from their 1977 movie "Kochaj albo rzuć" ("Love me or Leave me") in which the loveable duo arrive in the USA (Chicago) for the first time.
*Incidentally, Laurel and Hardy are known as Flip and Flap here in Poland!!
