[click image to enlarge] It's fitting to end Fire Protection month with a collage of various fire hydrants located in Quincy. Their colors correspond to the size of the pipe they are attached to. The red ones are designated for commercial building use.
[click image to enlarge] This old fire apparatus was used to fight fires in Quincy and is now on display in the lobby of the National Fire Protection Association. It is an 1845 Hunneman Hand Tub appropriately named "Granite." The inscription on the front and back reads: "We Come & We Conquer".
In the United States, eight out of 10 people killed in a fire die in one that has occurred in a home. During the week of October 5-11 and throughout October, the public is urged to take steps to protect themselves and their homes by learning how to prevent home fires and taking action in this regard.
