day 63 - a visit $

I was home with the kids today and Auntie M came for a visit after work. Here's Ethan waving goodbye:

Not much other than that. In unrelated news, I forgot to mention that one of my creative team layouts made with a great new template by Chrissy W was featured on March 1st on the Gallery Standouts web site:

Happy Heart Day

Template: Sample Pack 18 by Chrissy W at Elemental Scraps
Alphabet: Strawberry Swirl by Kaye Winiecki
Paper: French Country by Julia Makotinsky at Little Dreamer Designs, Frosted Flakes by Designs by Dani at Sweet Shoppe Designs
Elements: Lets Make a List by Designs by Lily at The Lily Pad (hearts), Birthday Booya by CD Muckosky at Little Dreamer Designs
Border: Life 365 by Gina Marie Huff at Weeds & Wildflowers
Font: AmerType BT Md

That was so nice to see and I am happy because I have streamlined my 2010 project 365 scrapbooking to make more time for scrapbooking whatever I feel like. At this point I am happy to say I have scrapbooked all of January and most of February and it took me no time at all. More on my new process next week. :)

Creative Team {layouts}

I finally had some time to scrapbook over the holidays and got some layouts done. I've decided the best way for me to catch up on 2009's Project 365 layouts is to work my way backwards. I still have a lot of catching up to do, but that's the beauty of regular blogging - the stories are waiting for me whenever I get the chance to work on it.

Here are some new layouts as well as some from a few months ago that I never got around to posting. Thanks for looking!

Creative team layout

This is one of those weeks where I have been behind on everything and constantly playing catch up. Today I had to write my Project 365 article for the Artisan's Notebook and I still had a creative team layout to do from start to finish. I was able to put this layout together in a little over an hour.

More than just a Snapshot

The journaling says: You love music. You love to listen to it in the car, you love to listen to it on my iPod and you stop what you are doing if there is music playing on the tv. You get this from me and my side of the family. We are all music lovers. I can remember when I was a kid, my dad would listen to records on his turntable. I would fall asleep listening to him playing the harmonica along with artists like Elton John, James Taylor, the Beatles, the Doobie Brothers and CCR. From a young age I knew many songs and knew a lot of things that other kids my age didn’t know like Skyline Pigeon is the b side of Daniel by Elton John (I realize you have no idea what a “b side” is). My mom loves music too. Growing up she listened to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and a lot of Motown. My grandparents loved music too. They loved to listen to calypso music and had a love for dancing. So with all of this taken into consideration, it is no wonder you love music the way you do. It’s in your blood. It’s a part of who you are and I couldn’t be prouder of you. I don’t know many three year olds who can identify Journey songs after only hearing the first two seconds of it. You can and immediately shout out “that’s the song where the guys look like girls!”

A whole pile of layouts

Well it took me a while to figure out what week I am on for project 365. I have been taking my pictures every day but I have fallen really behind on my weekly layouts. I have decided that if I am going to get caught up, I am going to have to scraplift myself. Remember this layout? I started with it and ended up with the one below. I am not totally wild about it and I like the original more, but I am moving on. That's one of the toughest things I had to learn about scrapbooking - you need to know when to move onto the next layout. If you fiddle for too long and strive too hard for perfection, you'll drive yourself crazy.

I finally got a chance to catch up on some scrapbooking. Unfortunately I am at least three weeks behind on my project 365 weekly layouts (I know today is day 113 but I have no idea what week it is...), but at least I'm caught up on my creative team layouts.

Catching up and some announcements

First things first. Debra asked for the Mille Feuilles recipe. Here it is!

Mille Feuilles

1 large box graham wafers
1 large box vanilla pudding and pie filling (the one you cook)
1 large container of 35% whipping cream
1/4 cup icing sugar
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sifted icing sugar (you may need more)
1/8 cup milk (you may need less)
2 squares Baker's Semi Sweet chocolate

Cook pudding (you can use microwave instructions). Cool pudding by placing bowl in a sink full cold water and ice to chill faster. (Note from my mom: I have used instant pudding and it works just fine.)

Whip cream with sugar and refrigerate.

Line a 9 x 13" glass pyrex dish with graham wafers. Next layer pudding, then wafers. At this point you can refrigerate (one hour) to solidify the layer.

Take out of fridge and place a layer of whipped cream and another layer of wafers. Always start with a layer of wafers and end with a layer of wafers.

Refrigerate and make the icing mixture. Cream butter or margarine, slowly add icing sugar and milk to a creamy consistency. Melt the chocolate squares either in a double boiler or in the microwave. If using the microwave then be careful as chocolate heats up quickly and will burn.

Ice the pan with the butter cream icing. Take the melted chocolate and make thin vertical and
horizontal lines spacing evenly on top of the icing. Take a small fork and run through the same both ways to create a feathery look.

Chill overnight. You want to chill for a long time to give the cream and pudding a chance to soften the wafers.

--------------------

Good luck and big thanks to my mom for the recipe.

On to the announcements. Did I ever mention that I have been writing a monthly column for an online magazine called The Artisan Notebook? Back in January I was asked to write a monthly article on Project 365. Tonight I submitted my fourth article, this one for the May issue. You can read more about the Artisan Notebook here.

A few weeks ago two more exciting things happened. I was asked by Chrissy if I would like to stay on for another term on her creative team. That was an easy decision! Then later that day I was approached by {we are} storytellers to be a member of their creative team. I love their stuff and am very inspired looking at their products. I think it is going to be a lot of fun. Stay tuned because my first assignment is due this week.

And last but not least, I want to share a link with you. My friend Jason is a fantastic photographer. He is very passionate about his photography and I am continually amazed at the beautiful shots he gets of everything from peaceful country settings to wildlife to weddings. I always enjoy talking to him about photography because his energy is infectious and his ideas are fresh and very creative. Jason finally gave me the okay to share the link to his blog with you. :) Great shots, Jason! Your work is beautiful and incredibly inspiring.

And that's all I had to say. Thanks for listening!

New CT layout

Chrissy has a pile of new product in the Elemental Scraps store this week. Here is a layout made with one of the templates from her new Lots to Say set. The other new product she has is also very cool. It's a part of the March Color Play line where all of the designers used the same colour palette and designed various items you can mix and match to make your own layouts. You can see all of the March Color Play items here.

A quick layout

I'm trying to keep my Project 365 pretty unstructured other than my weekly layout. In between I scrap whatever I feel like, making random pages highlighting certain events from a particular week. Here is a layout I did about day 31. It was a day where lots of stuff happened so I decided to do a page about it.

Not very exciting, but that's okay. It's all about capturing the moments and not every layout has to have hours put into it.
