Lavender & Green

I was surprised to spot these clover-like flowers yesterday at Squantum Park.  I would have thought last week's frost would have done them in.   I like the abstract way they look here with a little post processing.

Friday Abstract

This photo reminds me of those word verifications on Blogger, with the blurry numbers. It's an example of a product created by a company that doesn't care about the user's experience. Like printers that drain the color cartridges when you print black and white copies, or phone carriers that keep you on hold for an hour, or the only cable company we can get in Pasadena--the manufacturer just wants you to buy it, they don't really care about whether or not it's useful to you.

Well, I'm here to tell you, I care about User Experience! I want you to visit again and again, so I want you to have a good time while you're here. (I mean--if that's what you want.)

So, let's do a customer survey.

Um, lemme think.

...

How's the blog working for you?
Does everything open okay?
Does it have the right stuff in it?
Does it have the wrong stuff in it?
Can you get stuff out of it, or is it stuck?
Does it seem fresh?
Is it too loud?
Can you use it for anything?
What would you change about it? (If I would let you, which I'm not saying I would, I'm just asking?)
Does it fit?
Where do you keep it?
Do your friends have one?
Where do they keep it?

Thanks for taking the survey, and have a nice weekend.

Rose

The Rose Family

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose -
But were always a rose.

Whoosh

I was trying to make a "whoosh" with the camera, and I got this instead. It's more of a "whu-uhp!...phhh."

I'm fine with that. Often, when I set out to create something, I have to let go of the outcome.

Ce N'est Pas Une Tomate

Is it a picture of a tomato on the kitchen counter or is it art?

I'm not fishing for compliments. I'm trying to make a decision.

When does an object become representative of something else? Where does art happen? On the kitchen counter? In the camera? On the computer screen? In the eyes of the beholder?

And what does it have to do with Pasadena?

Sunlight Through Poo Bag

I hesitate to tell you my husband was the inspiration for this photo, lest you get the wrong impression. But John sees things, and teaches me to see things, from an artist's perspective and not as my preconceived notions expect them to be.

John holds up the dog poo bag to the sun and suggests I take a picture. This is the result of our collaboration.

Jackson Pollock's Back Yard

Hmm. There must be a reason to post this photo:

because I'm having trouble concentrating;

because I only have 15,649 other photos and this is the best one of the bunch;

because I like it;

because I lost an earring in there....

...what else?

Toxic Cookies

inspiration: John Sandel

I've mentioned how John and I chase light around our house with our cameras. Sometimes, the light is subtle and fleeting. Sometimes, the combination of light and object are positively wild.

But you have to keep your eyes open.

Although this one fits more into the wild category than the subtle, if John hadn't pointed it out I might not have noticed. It was drying in the dish rack one afternoon. I've pumped up the color.

Don't worry. This is the outside of the pan.
