Oral Weather Report

Those who say southern California has no seasons are merely immune to their subtlety. There was a teeny, tiny nip in the air today, so tiny we'll have to call it a niplet, but we know fall is coming on.

This is a confusing time. On our walk today, Boz and I saw one sleeveless neighbor, one in long sleeves and another in a sweatshirt (I am of the sweatshirt variety). We'll figure it out as the niplet advances to become an actual nip.

We'll know winter, once again, by subtleties. Most everyone will be in sweatshirts and sweaters by then (I'll be in my wool coat). The light will be less gold, more white. And our nip will have a bite to it.

Sparkly and Cold

I finally went out last night and got pictures of twinkly lights. What I won't do for you! It was freezing! The web said 50 degrees, but it was blustery enough for a substantial wind chill factor. Plus there's the Petrea chill factor, which subtracts another fifteen degrees. We're talkin' cold.

Last Christmas I went downtown for photos. This time I headed north. I was looking for the Star of Palawoo. I found it, but with houses and trees in my sight lines I couldn't figure out how to get a good angle on it. You'll get a better view either by driving up to Loma Alta just west of Marengo or by viewing the Altadena Weather Cam at night. It's worth it--well, it is if you bundle up. Such a pretty thing.

I opted for this pretty thing for today's post. These folks on New York Drive just east of Allen put up their Tour Eiffel every year, and every year I enjoy seeing it sparkle by the road. It's also a nice reminder that it's snowing and/or raining in Paris right now, depending on whether or not the temperature manages to get above 32 degrees.

Altadena Close-up

I had a good time getting my camera back up to Altadena. The alley behind Mariposa Street is one of my favorite views in town, believe it or not. Maybe because it's old-fashioned. A lot of people like it, I think. I understand it's often used for movie shoots. Of course, you could say that about pretty much all of Altadena.

The orange squares on the upper part of the building are plates that anchor reinforcing bolts. It's earthquake protection. (I blogged about it last year.) I think they add a little something.

There are 67 businesses on the Arts Coalition directory. I didn't get to everybody, which gives me an excuse to go back. Like I needed one.
