From Kastellorizo to Perth.....!
When you walk through the doors of Kakulas Brothers it's a little like walking back in time, the aroma exuding from the large open sacks of exotic spices and freshly ground coffee is slightly intoxicating and I wouldn't mind betting that the wooden floors, old shelves and even the counter tops are possibly the originals from when Evangelos Kakula opened this shop in 1929. In those days the shop hours were 7am - 11pm seven days a week, one thing that can't be denied is that the new settlers to Australia brought with them some excitingly diverse products and were, and still are extremely hard working. This is one of Aimee's favorite 'go to' places when she's looking for that elusive ingredient not found in the supermarket. It's a wonderfully wet weekend in Perth, just the way I like it, I hope yours is just how you like it also.....
