Day To Remember

Memorial Day is set aside to remember our military men and women, who have gone before us, like Samuel Lincoln, who fought in the Civil War. Samuel's final resting place is the National Sailor's Home Cemetery on Fenno Street where 119 Navy veterans of this country's Civil War are buried. This cemetery is the last remnant of the National Sailor's Home, founded by Robert Bennett Forbes in 1866, for sailors who had been injured during the Civil War. It included more than 6 acres and was operated as a farm until 1931. The farm was sold and developed into the Beechwood Knoll residential neighborhood. The only other reminder is Sailor's Home Pond.
