Noodles!

Xiao Boa Biscuit, Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

When Eater asked foodies to describe 2012 food scene in Charleston in one word, the word Asian came up a couple of times. This restored gas station at Rutledge and Spring St. might be part of the reason for that. This is the mural on the Xiao Boa Biscuit

Check the Eater website to see the rest of the words describing the food scene in the lowcountry: charleston.eater and for more foodie interests in Charleston.

I have a "before" picture of the gas station but I went out for a bite to eat to celebrate my Friday and had two glasses of wine and I can't find it anywhere. Ooops. Here it is in the current but still rustic condition.

Free money!

Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

I bet someone watches from a window laughing as people try to pick up the dollar bill. It is set in a puddle of clear acrylic. Heheh.

Good food keeps coming to me

The Remedy Market, Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

Changes in the hood! I walked the Bee, Rutledge, Spring St. route this morning and spotted lots of changes going on. Seems like tasty food places are springing up all over in this neighborhood. I've been a slacker and haven't even been inside the Remedy Market yet. Any recommendations? Next time I'll try to walk by when it is open.

Save the Crabs!

Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

I left work early to go to a funeral (sniff) at Pinecrest Baptist Church and then had to find chocolate gold coins for a Leprechaun to hand out tomorrow. I tracked them down at World Market along with a little tiny marzipan treat that didn't last until I got to the car.

Today's picture used to be on the side of the building at King and Spring St. Oddly, although the building is in the same state of disrepair and remains the faded pink color, someone painted a big blank square over the crab mural. Why, huh? Why? Inquiring minds want to know. Save the crabs!

I am home early enough to walk while it is still light which is a treat. Would it be so terrible to end an exercise walk at Five Loaves Cafe?

Shepard Fairey Art on Spring St.

Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

Scooped. I've been scooped!

I've taken a zillion pictures of this old building, the doors, the locks and the hand painted signs through the years, but missed this Shepard Fairey installation until I read about it on 53 Cannon. The former auto repair shed is now Eye Level Art but until recently had remained relatively unchanged on the outside.

Street artist Shepard Fairey was recently featured in the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop that played briefly at the Terrace Theater and on the Stephen Colbert show. He did the controversial poster of President Obama and the original Obey stickers.

I spotted a couple of the Obey Giant stickers in Charleston recently and loved the little "Marks A Lot" addition below them. Ha!

Monday Funny

Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

A little girl goes to the barber shop with her father. She stands next to the barber chair, while her dad gets his hair cut, eating a snack cake. The barber says to her, "Sweetheart, you're gonna get hair on your Twinkie."

She says, "Yes, I know, and I'm gonna get boobs too!"

Before & After - Spring St.

35 Spring St., Charleston, S.C.

I am enjoying these before and after features even if the changes don't always make me happy. This little shop on Spring St. went from wildly colorful to drab in preparation for selling. It has a big old barn of a house behind it that looks like it needs complete renovation.

The weekend is over almost before it has begun, kids and I'm not ready. As usual I try to cram all my chores into the last hour so clothes are in the wash and I'm sorting through a stack of bills.

I am uploading a zillion pictures taken this weekend from the Piccolo Art show to adorable kids at picnics and at the beach as well as some extraordinarily quirky finds from a long drive in the country. Seems like I've covered a lot of ground in two days.
