Through Lady Lavender's Window

Last week I showed you the entrance to Lady Lavender a new café and cup-cake shop that opened recently.

This week I'm showing the view through the window from inside the shop.

Me, I like a nice cup of tea and a toasted teacake and I'm not into cupcakes, but for those of you who are, the window provides a delightful display of her wares.

Beyond there is also a clear view of the market stalls outside.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Bench on a cold Saturday

Last week I showed you the shadow of a bench in the snow. This Saturday there was no snow but in spite of a strong sun it was bitterly cold and the shadows were sharp.

Need an Umbrella?

The CDPB theme for February 1st is "Umbrellas". I took this photograph on the last Saturday before Christmas 2012 from the shelter of the entrance to Clarendon Mall.

Regular readers will have seen this stall before, in June 2010 and more recently in December 2012 where you can see that the stall-holder's main business is key-cutting. He also engraves pet discs and sells batteries and cigarette lighters.

For more umbrellas visit the CDPB Theme page.

What a difference a day makes

Sunday afternoon looking across Hyde Civic Square with not a flake of snow or sliver of ice to be seen.

How different it looked on Saturday morning.

Look closely and you'll find several touches of blue for Blue Monday.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Bench in the snow

A blanket of snow had fallen overnight leaving the market ground very icy - see Hyde DP Xtra.

By mid-morning, the sun was out and casting the shadow of a bench over the now melting slush.

Where the Christmas Tree Stood

Wandering across the Civic Square last Saturday I looked over the fencing around where the Christmas Tree had been.

In the hole with the electric cables there were also a couple of baubles.

The paving stone is back now and the barriers gone.

Go to Hyde DP Xtra to see the taking down of the lights from the Town Hall.

Weekend Reflections: Mossley Band

Members of Mossley Band playing in Hyde Civic Square on the penultimate Saturday before Christmas.

A close-up view of two tubas can be seen on sithenah.

Two more photographs of the band are on Hyde DP Xtra.

More information about the band can be found on the Mossley Band website.

Dancing to the carol singers

In front of the carol singers in my post from yesterday were a couple of red-dressed folk singing heartily and even doing a little dance. I believe they were actually promoting the local food banks.

Round the other side the Rotary Club of Hyde had parked Santa's sleigh - see Hyde DP Xtra.

Posted for Ruby Tuesday and Our World Tuesday.

Carol singers in the Civic Square

Carol singing in the Civic Square on Saturday was being led by Tom on accordion and Jim on guitar.

It was wet to start with but brightened up later.

Santa in his red suit was around. I showed you his reindeer in the Mall yesterday.

I'll show you his sleigh tomorrow.

The Mossley band were also in the square and I'll show you them on Saturday.

With the bits of blue in this photograph I'd like to wish a Merry Christmas to all the bloggers who contribute to Blue Monday.

Meanwhile please remember to vote for your favourites at Best of Hyde 2012.

Christmas Tree reflections

It had rained on Monday and around the Christmas tree in Hyde Civic Square the wet market ground carried reflections of the HSBC bank and the baked potato stall.

In the background is a Stagecoach 330 bus at the grade II listed bus shelter.

I'd done my shopping so just quickly took this shot and then went to catch that bus.

ABC Wednesday: T is Time for Thermals

This temporary stall was on Hyde Market a couple of weeks ago.

Did I buy any? I hear you ask.

Well not that day but I bought some later from the regular stall downstairs in the inside market and now the weather has changed I'll be getting some more.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Christmas Tree on Hyde Civic Square

Hyde's Christmas tree used to be put outside the Town Hall but this year it arrived in the new Civic Square on Thursday casting its shadow across the market ground.

The lights were officially switched on on Friday. I didn't go down myself this year but reports suggest that quite a lot of other folk did.

I went down on Saturday morning and found some young people in Santa hats near the tree and inside the mall discovered a PINK Christmas tree spouting a fountain. See them on Hyde DP Xtra.

Ruby Tuesday: New bollards

I recently showed you a clear view of Corporation Street and noted that new retractable bollards had been erected since.

Several things have gone in the revamp of Hyde Market but the red telephone kiosks have remained.

Across the road a red car is passing the red-brick Town Hall.

See the scene from the opposite direction on Hyde DP Xtra.

Skywatch Friday: A clear view of Corporation Street

I took this a few weeks ago following the end of the refurbishment work on Hyde Market.

There is a clear view from the market ground across the road and down Corporation Street.

See how it looked in January 2010 under a blanket of snow; in August 2009 with the sun shining, and in 2002 before and after the erection of the Crown Pole which was removed in January 2012 at the start of the renewal work.

Since I took this photograph a row of retractable metal bollards have been placed across the entrance so the view is already not as clear as seen here.

Shadow Shot Sunday: Hyde Market

Yesterday I showed you a photograph of the market in the pouring rain.

Today for contrast I bring you autumn sunshine and shadows.

Weekend Reflections: The Town Hall on the Civic Square

On a day when the rain came down in lumps I captured this reflection of the Town Hall in the flags of the new Civic Square from behind the stalls by the Mall.

A smaller but wider/taller version of this, showing the Town Hall itself, can be seen on Geograph

A view of the market stalls from the opposite direction can be seen on Hyde DP Xtra.
