Toruń Under Water

Streets submerged in water
No walking in this street!
At one point the water level in this street was as high as the wall!
The Wanda tourist boat still manages to operate (albeit from a much higher point)
The boats on the left is where the river bank usually begins.
Bushes, bricks and umbrellas are now submerged in the river

May has been a very wet month for Poland...with severe floods and deaths down in the south. It has been a major news story here for the past couple of weeks but one which has not really had much international coverage.

The floods have also had some impact here in Toruń. As the dam in nearby Włocławek became too full, it had to be opened releasing a large surge of water and causing the Vistula to burst its banks. Bulwar Filadelfijski has been under water for several days...with the level so high that it reached the walls of Hotel Bulwar.

Thankfully, the water levels are receding now.
