Quincy's famous architect

This week I will continue the tour of "Granite City."

First stop is a memorial dedicated to Solomon Willard, the designer and builder of Bunker Hill Monument in Boston. This simple one piece granite column, located in Hall Cemetery, was erected in 1940.
As an aside, I have been told that this stone column was originally earmarked for the New York Stock Exchange but rejected for an imperfection.



Just a stone's throw away is the gravestone and miniature obelisk marking the burial place of Solomon Willard.
