The Adams Homestead consisting of almost 5 acres, and named "Peacefield" by John Adams and later to the Adams family as the "Old House" sits at the corner of Adams Street and Newport Avenue. The Homestead includes the well-maintained house, library, garden, and stables. John Adams lived in the house year round after retiring from the Presidency in 1801 until his death in 1826. In 1946 the Adams Memorial Society donated the property to the Federal Government.
